Step-by-Step Guide

  1. A man bent over a large sandbag lying on the floor, his arms wrapped as far around it as possible, with an elevated loading platform visible a short distance away.

    Step 1 of 4

Stand over the sandbag and bend down. Reach as far around it as you can with both arms.

  2. The same man, now standing with the sandbag lifted clear of the floor and held high against his torso, partway between the floor and the platform.

    Step 2 of 4

Straighten your hips and knees to lift the bag. Hold it high against your torso and walk quickly toward the platform.

  3. The same man standing at the platform, extended up onto the balls of his feet, placing the sandbag onto the platform's flat top.

    Step 3 of 4

Rise onto the balls of your feet. Place the bag on top of the platform.

  4. A man bent over a large sandbag lying on the floor, his arms wrapped as far around it as possible, with an elevated loading platform visible a short distance away.

    Step 4 of 4

Step back from the platform and bend down to the floor bag for the next lift.

  • Place the bag, do not throw it

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Rounding the back
  • Lifting with the arms only
  • Letting the bag swing away
  • Rushing the placement

Safety Information

Heavy awkward lift for experienced gym users with coaching. A lighter sandbag or a kettlebell is a safer substitute. Ask a clinician first if you have back, hernia or recent abdominal injury.
