Keeping your head and chest up, extend through the elbows to press both handles directly overhead, then pause at the top.

  3. A woman standing between two cable towers, holding a handle in each hand at shoulder height, palms facing forward.

    Step 3 of 3

Stand directly between the two pulley towers and grasp the cables, holding a handle in each hand at shoulder height with your palms facing forward.

Safety Information

Keep the head and chest up throughout the press, rather than letting the chin drop or the chest collapse forward as the handles rise overhead. If you have a shoulder impingement, rotator-cuff injury, recent shoulder surgery, or an unstable shoulder, ask a physical therapist or physician before attempting this exercise, because it loads the shoulder through a full overhead range against a cable's resistance. Stop and lower the handles back to the starting position with control immediately if you feel a pinch, sharp pain, or numbness in the shoulder, neck, or arm at any point in the press. Stop if the exercise causes pain or you become unwell. Seek appropriate professional advice about symptoms or suitability.
