Step-by-Step Guide

  1. A woman standing tall, two kettlebells racked at her shoulders, forearms vertical.

    Step 1 of 4

Start with the kettlebells in a strong racked position, your feet well grounded.

  2. The same woman, now lower in a shallow dip, knees and hips bent, the kettlebells still racked at her shoulders.

    Step 2 of 4

Use your knees and hips to load a shallow dip, keeping the kettlebells racked and your forearms vertical.

  3. The same woman, standing tall again, both kettlebells now locked out straight overhead.

    Step 3 of 4

Drive through your legs to press both kettlebells overhead, straightening your arms and stabilising your shoulders until your triceps lock out.

  4. A woman standing tall, two kettlebells racked at her shoulders, forearms vertical.

    Step 4 of 4

Start with the kettlebells in a strong racked position, your feet well grounded.

Breathing

  • Inhale as you push the kettlebells overhead; exhale as you catch them back into the racked position.

Safety Information

Keep your wrists fixed and your forearms vertical throughout the press -- never let them rotate. If you have a shoulder injury, low-back injury, knee injury, or a balance impairment, ask a physical therapist or physician before loading an overhead press with the added leg-drive momentum of a push press, because the whole body briefly bears the combined weight of two kettlebells through a dip-and-drive sequence. Stop and lower the kettlebells back to the racked position with control immediately if you feel a pinch, sharp pain, or loss of balance at any point during the dip or the overhead drive. Stop if the exercise causes pain or you become unwell. Seek appropriate professional advice about symptoms or suitability.
