Step-by-Step Guide

Set up

  • Never lift the bucket off the floor; keep it standing upright throughout.
  1. A man kneeling behind a bucket, both hands gripping its rim together, thumbs facing his own body.

    Step 1 of 4

Kneel close over the bucket and grasp the rim with both hands together, thumbs facing your body.

  2. The same man, the bucket now turned clockwise so the handle has swung to his right of its starting position.

    Step 2 of 4

Twist your fingers to turn the bucket clockwise, continuing to grip the rim close to your body.

  3. The same man, the bucket now turned counterclockwise so the handle has swung to his left of its starting position.

    Step 3 of 4

Once you fatigue in that direction, twist your fingers the other way to turn the bucket counterclockwise.

  4. A man kneeling behind a bucket, both hands gripping its rim together, thumbs facing his own body.

    Step 4 of 4

Kneel close over the bucket and grasp the rim with both hands together, thumbs facing your body.

Safety Information

Keep both hands gripping the rim throughout the rotation in either direction -- releasing a hand while the bucket is mid-turn lets it tip or spill unexpectedly. If you have a wrist, hand, or finger injury, ask a physical therapist or physician before attempting this exercise, since it loads the fingers and wrist through a sustained twisting grip. Stop and set the bucket down with control immediately if you feel a sharp pain, cramping, or loss of grip at any point in either rotation direction. Stop if the exercise causes pain or you become unwell. Seek appropriate professional advice about symptoms or suitability.
