Step-by-Step Guide

Set up

  • Load an appropriate weight onto the pins.
  • Adjust the seat so the handles are near the top of the pectorals with the chest and head up and shoulder blades retracted.
  1. He sits on the inclined seat: back flat on the angled pad, both hands gripping the lever handles at rest near the top of his pectorals, chest and head up, shoulder blades drawn together, feet planted.

    Step 1 of 5

Sit on the incline seat with handles near the top of the pectorals, chest and head up, shoulder blades retracted.

  2. He is mid-press: both lever handles driven forward and up along the incline line, elbows extending, chest and head up, blades still drawn, feet planted.

    Step 2 of 5

Press the handles forward by extending through the elbow.

  3. He holds the pressed-out finish: both lever handles fully forward along the incline line, elbows extended, chest tall and head up, blades drawn, the brief top pause held.

    Step 3 of 5

Pause briefly at the top with the elbows extended, keeping the chest tall.

  4. He is mid-return: the lever handles easing back toward his upper chest but held just above the start position off the stops, elbows re-bending, chest up, blades drawn, tension kept on the arms.

    Step 4 of 5

Return the weight to just above the start position, keeping tension without letting it touch the stops.

  5. He sits on the inclined seat: back flat on the angled pad, both hands gripping the lever handles at rest near the top of his pectorals, chest and head up, shoulder blades drawn together, feet planted.

    Step 5 of 5

Sit on the incline seat with handles near the top of the pectorals, chest and head up, shoulder blades retracted.

Keep the shoulder blades retracted and the chest and head up through the press; do not let the weight rest on the stops between reps. Stop if the exercise causes pain or you become unwell.
